Introduction
Preorders are where you accept orders for items that you don't have in stock yet. Follow the steps in this help article to make sure that you correctly configure your Shopify account to accept preorders, as well as use Deliverr to fulfill them when you do have the inventory.
Overall, the process is similar to using Multiple Locations in Shopify. We'll ask you to create a dummy location that will hold these orders. When you do have the inventory in Deliverr, you'll delete that location and reassign those orders to Deliverr.
Note: Deliverr only supports preorders with the Shopify direct integration.
Prerequisites
Follow all the of the steps in the Multiple Locations in Shopify article. This includes:
- Within your Shopify account,
- Disable automatic fulfillment
- Create a new 'Deliverr USA' location
- Set 'Deliverr USA' as the default location and the top priority
- Within Deliverr Seller Portal
- Go to the Shopify integration details page and enable Multiple Locations
Once these prerequisites are complete, continue with the steps below.
Setup Instructions
1) Create a new location
In Shopify, go to Settings > Locations.
Click Add Location to create a new location.
Create a new location. Call the location 'Preorders ABC Location' since this location will be used just to hold your preorders. Hit 'Save' when done.
2) Configure this new location appropriately
In Locations > Fulfillment priority, make sure that the new location is the last in priority.
For each SKU that you want to accept preorders for, go into Shopify and give the dummy location 10,000 units of that SKU. 10,000 is just an arbitrarily large number meant to accept all the orders until you are ready to actually fulfill them.
For each product in Shopify, go to the Inventory section. In the 'Preorders ABC Location' row, click the number in 'Available' column, and then set the quantity to 10,000.
3) Moving from Preorders to Real Orders
Double check that you have the available inventory in stock (positive values in the available column) at https://sellerportal.deliverr.com/inventory.
If you do not have these items in Deliverr yet, then we will import the orders and then cancel them because we see it as out of stock.
Delete the location in Shopify. In Settings > Location > 'Preorders ABC Location' select 'Deactivate location'.
Reassign the orders to the Deliverr USA location. If you have setup multiple locations correctly, then Deliverr will import these new orders and fulfill them. Note: Deliverr will only import back orders from the last 60 days.
